In Loving Memory of our beloved dog Snow
April 24, 2014 – Aug. 30, 2024
Snow came into our lives as an adorable 12 week old puppy in July 2014. We thought we had hit the jackpot, a dog that didn’t bark! Well, it didn’t take long for her to feel more comfortable with us and find her bark! Right after we brought her home, we took her camping. She was so content to be with us in the tent and play with her squeaky toys before the sun came up!
At first, it was hard to get her to go for walks and we ended up carrying her part of the way, but as she grew, she loved to go for walks, especially if she got to choose to walk through an apartment complex or the townhomes at the bottom of our street. She loved to be nosy! Snow’s gait was a graceful trot compared to some of her lumbering doggy friends. She would bump her nose against my hand when she thought she was behaving on the walk and deserved a treat! ”
Snow loved the cooler weather, especially playing in the snow. If the snow was deep enough, she would put her head down and “snowplow” through the drifts and would plunge her head into the snow and come up with a mouse or vole! Snow also loved the water and swimming. On one trip to see family in AZ, she had to make sure we were safe in the backyard pool by grabbing an arm in her mouth and towing each of us back to the step. She swam so much, using her tail as a rudder, that she got “swimmer’s tail.” Yes, that’s a thing! Her poor tail hung limp for a few days.
In our backyard, she loved to trap the squirrels up in the trees and chase them along the fence, roll in the grass, or chew on a good bone in the shade. Snow was not a huge fan of snuggling, but she did like to come up on our bed and have belly rubs in the mornings, and in the colder months, she would squeeze in between us at the foot of the bed. When she slept, if she was content and comfortable, she would let out the biggest groaning sigh! She loved a good massage and ear rubs.
Snow loved her treats, especially when we shared table food with her. Some of her favorites were eggs, chicken, and cheese. She always chewed her food carefully and would wait for us to pet her before she began to eat. Her drooling over food was unreal, it would pour out of her mouth and make puddles on the floor if we were cooking or eating. When we put a bone in her KONG, she would toss it around the house until she got it out. She got really good at it and would lick the inside first and the bone seemed to pop out like magic! She could “shake” and “high five,” but as hard as we tried to get her to “speak,” she just looked at us like we were out of our mind when we’d demonstrate the behavior!
Snow had such expressive eyes, she could communicate so much in the way she looked at us. We were blessed with 10 wonderful years with Snow and are forever grateful, but we miss the excited greeting at the door, the cold nose nudges, the daily walks, the look she gave us when she wanted treats, her contented sighs, the “smile” she had on her face, and her huge presence in our lives. We love you forever Snow! Until we meet again…
Love your family, Robin, Todd, Jason & Rebecca
